It's been a week since we waved goodbye to our authors, and we're still marveling over what a wonderful time we had at the 2018 Nantucket Book Festival! As you can imagine, producing a Festival with such extraordinary authors and events takes a tremendous number of volunteers, donors, sponsors, and staff. There is no way to adequately thank the people who make our Festival possible, but we hope you will visit our website and take a look at the committee and board members profiled there, as well as the many donors and sponsors who sustain us not just during the Festival, but year-round. Our 50+ Festival volunteers kept the events running smoothly, and took good care of our authors as well. In particular, the support of the Nantucket business community, with so many gifts of lodging, food and beverage, transportation, newspaper/web/TV/radio promotion, and gorgeous venues for our author events, continues to inspire us each year with their generosity and enthusiasm for our Festival.
We don't do much fundraising during the Festival, focusing instead on presenting over 75% of the events to our audience for no charge. We are able to do that because of the loyal donors and sponsors who believe in what we do and the impact that these authors make in our community. Now that the 2018 Festival is over, we appeal to you again for your much-needed support in order to make the 2019 Nantucket Book Festival a reality. We are also busy lining up authors for our year-round programs in the schools as well as the Page to Stage series at the Dreamland. All of these efforts are driven by our desire to see Nantucket flourish, thanks to the transforming power of literature in the lives of all of our residents.
