The Author Dinner - Presented by the White Elephant - Jill Karp, Honorary Chairperson

Close your eyes Book Festival attendees, and dream of an evening of a lifetime. Imagine enjoying a sumptuous buffet dinner overlooking Nantucket Harbor while rubbing elbows with almost 30 of your favorite authors. Then snap out of that most perfect of dreams, wake up, and remind yourself that such an evening does in fact await you on Friday, June 15th at the Festival. Treat yourself and buy a ticket (or two)!

The Author Dinner, presented by Nantucket Island Resorts, is the perfect ending to a day filled with inspiring author conversations. The award-winning food, the iconic harbor setting, and the palpable energy of great conversations between authors and guests create an atmosphere I hate to leave every year.

Last year, I rallied the gumption of a poli sci major and posed some sophomoric questions about the fate of the world’s oceans to Carl Safina, renowned ecologist and producer of PBS’ “Saving the Oceans”. Had he presented at a formal workshop, I would have never approached him. Yet at the Dinner, in such a relaxed environment, it felt comfortable to do so. He and his wife were happy to spend loads of time breaking down their answers into morsels I could understand. It was a most unique and special conversation. You too can look forward to experiences like this if you join us at the White Elephant!

Full disclosure: I am the Development Chair, and as we race to our fundraising goal, filling the room with dinner guests enjoying themselves is also good business. Why? Because the Dinner is the only weekend event designed to fundraise for the Book Festival. Your ticket purchase helps keep over 75% of our events free and open to everyone.

Isn’t that wonderful? A weekend of outstanding authors offered with no charge and open to all. Yet the underwriting dollars don’t wash in on high tide. Rather it is Dinner attendees who help sustain the Festival.

You may purchase your tickets by clicking on either of the following live links.

Author Dinner tickets are $350/person, or the Bookends Package (Author Dinner + Sunday Breakfast) is $425.

I guarantee that you too will not want to leave at the conclusion of the evening.
