Esi Edugyan with Heather Reisman

In Washington Black, award-winning Canadian novelist Esi Edugyan tells the beautifully wrought tale of a young slave on Barbados who becomes a scientist and illustrator through an encounter with an eccentric slave-holding Englishman. The tale told is not easy, with no clear path to salvation for Wash, as the titular character is called. Edugyan writes about the undiscovered genius of slaves and the ambiguity of life post-slavery, physically free but psychologically bewildered in the context of a new world. Edugyan will be joined in conversation by Heather Reisman, founder and CEO of Indigo Books.
