John Thompson

About

John Thompson writes, "I have always had stories in my head, and these days I get to write them. Usually when I get busy writing, I’m working on stories for Middle Grade readers, but I have also written thrillers for adults. I write thrillers because that’s one of the genres I particularly love to read, and I write Middle Grade because my daughter was 12 when I wrote my first one, and I wrote it for her. I have come to LOVE middle grade novels. My first middle grade book, a mystery called The Girl from Felony Bay was released in 2013. The Junior Library Guild named it a Monthly Selection, and the Southern Independent Booksellers voted it Best Children’s Book of the year in 2014. It is also a Finalist for the Black-Eyed Susan Award, the Maine Student Book Award, the William Allen White Award and the South Carolina Book Award. Its sequel, Disappearance at Hangman’s Bluff, was released in September 2014, also to great acclaim.

A little bit about me—I was born in Toledo, Ohio, went to Berkshire School and Middlebury College where my fascination with writing started to grow, worked for a long time in New York City, and now reside in Charleston, SC, where I write every day and live with my wife and my daughter, my Boykin Spaniel, Lulu, and a horribly behaved Jack Russell named Mr. Bean."
