JOYDEEP ROY-BHATTACHARYA was educated in politics and philosophy at Presidency College , Calcutta, and the University of Pennsylvania. He drew upon his travels in Eastern Europe and his experience of the Velvet Revolutions for his first novel, The Gabriel Club, set in Budapest and Vienna. It won the Grand Jury Award at the Budapest Book Festival in 2001. In 2011 The Storyteller of Marrakesh appeared, a book about the oral storytelling tradition and the first novel in his "peace trilogy" about Muslim culture. The Watch came out in 2012, the second novel--and the only one so far published--of a "war trilogy," which deals with the American invasion of Afghanistan. Another volume in each trilogy will come out next year. Mr. Roy-Bhattacharya lives in the Hudson Valley in upstate New York.
