R.W. Alley

About

R.W. Alley writes, "My parents saved stuff, especially paper stuff, and that’s why I know that I’ve been drawing since about age two. Over the years I’ve gotten a little better at hands and feet, but horses remain a problem. After graduating college (Haverford College) with a degree in art history, and after four years in the greeting card industry (Hallmark and Paramount), I decided to turn my full attention to illustrating and writing books for children. To date I have illustrated well over one hundred board books, picture books, early readers and chapter books, including the Paddington Bear books by Michael Bond (HarperCollins). In 2010, I received a Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor Award for the illustrations for Pearl and Wagner: One Funny Day by Kate McMullan (Dial). Most enjoyably, I’ve also had the privilege of illustrating three books by my wife, the talented Zoë B. Alley. The newest picture book, Enzo Races in the Rain! (HarperCollins, 2014). More to come, I hope. For twenty-six years, Zoë and I have lived in Barrington, Rhode Island, where we raised our two, now young-adult, children."
