ROSIE SCHAAP's recently published memoir, Drinking With Men ,tours a couple of decades of the author's life, the touchstones being the bars where she took comfort and found friendship. Listeners may know her as a contributor to This American Life on NPR, readers as the writer of the "Drink" column in The New York Times Magazine. In this memoir she takes us from her days as a precocious teenage tarot reader in the bar car of the Metro-North New Haven Line train, through her Deadhead phase, her time as librarian, a manager of homeless shelters, a community organize and a bartender. Always at the heart of things is a current favorite bar, whose culture she explains and whose sense of community she clearly cherishes.
