Perhaps the most important and timely book of the year is Isabel Wilkerson's book Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents. Written in 2020, the theme of Wilkerson’s book— racial discrimination and injustice is due to a caste system in America that perpetually insists on keeping Blacks "in their place"— is playing out in front of us daily. Her message is painful, showing us over and over again how our country has enforced this system to extremes that even Nazi Germany found excessive. And yet her book ends with hope and a vision of what a world without caste could be.
